ProsePlanner Spotlight: Halloween Horror Writing

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the Autumn. I’m ready for the trees to turn colors, the rain to fall so much that I have to bring out my rain gear, and to read my favorite horror fiction. Below are a few incredible horror fiction stories that I consider to be in my top 10 classics of horror fiction.

But before we dive into these spooky goodies, let’s ponder a moment to understand what makes a great scary story, particularly for horror fiction. Is it the paranormal aspect, the taboo, the creature? Is it the tingling zing that slips down your spine and anchors in your gut? Is it the way your dreams are slightly altered for a night or two? What frightens you? Maybe it’s a dark and dreary haunted house on the moors, or maybe it’s the simplest of things taking on a sinister edge. The way a doll’s smile was upturned yesterday, but today it’s downturned? Or maybe its the dreaded walk across a dark parking lot, because you were the last to leave the store? If that makes your blood run cold, then you’re in the right place for a fright.

So, lock the doors, pull the blankets up close, and keep reading for several spooky book recommendations. But, wait! Did you check to make sure the door was locked?!
