ProsePlanner | Types of Editing for Indie Authors

As an indie author myself, I think it’s important to understand the different types of editors and how they can help you write your book.

Types of Editing:

Below are my very generalized descriptions for the different types of editing that indie authors may use. While you don’t have to use any of the editorial services listed below, it is a great idea to do so. For example, if you are new to writing, then you may benefit from starting with a manuscript critique after you’ve written the first few chapters. I often use a manuscript critique service first when I start any creative writing project, because I need that type of feedback to confirm if my story idea is robust enough to write an entire book about. (Or, maybe it’s just a short story or a flash fiction story instead.)
